Difference between Individual Mode and Shared Mode on Meta Quest devices

This article is only applicable to admins with permissions to manage Meta Quest devices.
Individual Mode
Individual Mode is intended for a Meta Quest device that’s used by one person in your organization. People have to be 18 years of age or older (depending on the age of legal majority where you reside) to use a Meta Quest device in Individual Mode.
A Meta Quest device in Individual Mode is assigned one managed Meta account to access the device. People using a Meta Quest device in Individual Mode will also need to set up a Meta Horizon profile when they log into their Meta Quest for the first time.
Admins can create an Individual Mode device preset to apply to multiple Meta Quest devices, or configure devices independently.
Devices in Individual Mode have the following system apps and services pre-installed:
  • First steps for Quest 2
  • Messenger
  • Meta Quest Browser
  • Meta Quest Guide
  • Meta Quest Move
  • Meta Quest Scoreboards
  • Remote Display (Beta)
  • Timer
  • VR animation player
Shared Mode
A Shared Mode device can be used by multiple people. Admins can choose whether an account is required to use the device.
People have to be 18 years of age or older (depending on the age of legal majority where you reside) to use a Shared Mode device that requires an account. If the Shared Mode device does not require an account, then people have to be 13 years of age or older (subject to applicable legal requirements where you reside) to use it. Learn more about age requirements.
Admins can create a Shared Mode device preset to assign to multiple Meta Quest devices, or configure devices independently.
People who are using a Meta Quest device in Shared Mode will only be able to use apps that have been assigned by an admin to the Shared Mode device or device preset.
